I’m going to start this blog with a confession. I, Autumn Branscome, got super lazy about backing up sessions and lost a few. Weddings and newborns I back up to two EHDs the minute I get home but for regular sessions, I wasn’t worrying about. Back in the Spring, I shot the cutest styled minis ever. Sweet Addison was in an adorable tutu and had the cutest polka dot rain boots (she was jumping in puddles) and Landon was dressed in suspenders and a newsboy hat and we took pictures of him at the baseball field. One of my absolute favorite sessions. I was so excited. I edited a few previews and a week later went to finish editing the session. I pulled up Lightroom and noticed the folder was missing. I’ve never had an issue with Lightroom and my Mac is fairly new so I honestly didn’t think much of it. Decided to call it a night, went to bed and would fix it in the morning. I honestly thought it was just a glitch. The next morning I get up, log in to my computer, pull up Lightroom and not only did I notice that folder was missing but 3 others had disappeared as well over night!!! I started to panic, bought recovery software, tried 2 different programs to pull the images off of my cards. Nope, nothing. It was all gone.
I panicked, I puked, I cried. I was so angry at myself because I KNOW better!!! I know better! I’ve been in business for 5 years and have seen countless photographers on forums lose sessions and tell people to back up their photos. I hung my head in shame and messaged my client. Apologized over and over and over again. Thankfully they were super gracious and I was able to do another session for them!
Thank you “P” family for being so gracious and nice about my mistake. Also, to all of you photographers reading this… BACK UP EVERY SINGLE SESSION! 😉
