Why Lifestyle? fresh48 Edition.

It’s time for part 2 of our Why Lifestyle? series! This weeks post is all about fresh48 photography! Being the lifestyle photography junkie that I am, in the past year I have also started offering another type of lifestyle newborn photography… Cue the fresh48! 😉 Let me tell you a little about how my fresh48 journey began… Last year a wonderful client of mine text me and asked me if I had ever done a fresh48 session and if I would be able to try it with her new baby who was due in December. I’d never done a fresh48 but I have a few photographer friends in different parts of the country who offer fresh48 sessions and I always fall in love with those images. I said that I would certainly give it my best shot!

Once again, it was love at first click y’all.

Princeton WV Newborn Photographer

Yep, those are images from my very first fresh48.

Okay, so some of you may be wondering what in the world is a fresh48 session? A fresh48 session is a lifestyle newborn session done in the first 48 hours of life, typically at the hospital or birthing center. I know firsthand how foggy those few days immediately following your little ones birth can be. Not only are you trying to figure this new addition out, visitors are coming and going, the restless nights set in, and not to mention dealing with everything that comes along with delivering a baby. You know what I mean!! 😉  I barely remember my first few days with my Hannah. I was relieved she was here, uncertain about how to care for this little one, thankful she was healthy, utterly exhausted, and the list goes on. I can’t put into words the amount of emotions that flooded me, you guys. The only way I can describe those first few days is just… foggy. I don’t remember them but I wish I would’ve found a photographer to come to the hospital and take professional and timeless images of her that I could treasure for years to come. I would give anything to have images of her tiny wrinkled feet, an image of her in the hospital bassinet, a shot of our brand new family of 3. I don’t remember any of those moments now and I want to give my clients images of those times so they always remember. I strive to capture those special moments that the fogginess of a new baby can cause us to forget. The wrinkled feet, baby’s tiny head in dad’s hands, the look of wonder in big sisters eyes as she looks at her new baby brother, mom taking in that sweet newborn smell as she kisses her new baby’s forehead. All of these sweet memories disappear too quickly in time.

You may be wondering why all of these images are in black and white? If you know me, you know I love black and white images. There is just something so timeless about a black and white image! Let’s think back to the 80’s… What colors defined fashion in the 80’s? NEONS!!! Neon pink, neon green, neon blue… Fashion was all about neon and neon was cool! Now we’ll travel to the 90’s… What colors defined the 90’s? Those bold primary colors! Reds, blues, yellows… It was all about bold colors! Which colors will define present day fashion? Who knows! My point behind all of this is that colors date photos! When photos are taken in black and white, there are no colors to distract from the emotion of the image. This is why I photograph fresh48s in black and white. When your baby girl is getting ready to graduate high school and you pull these photos out of an album for her to see, you’ll see the emotion you felt on the very day that she was born. That’s what these sessions are about, remembering that raw emotion you felt on the day your sweet baby was born.

I really didn’t mean to write a book, you guys. fresh48 newborn photography is just something I am extremely passionate about and so excited to bring to our area! Not only will you treasure these images for years to come, your kids will treasure them. And their kids, and even their kids after that. It’s not completely about you, it’s also about them. Give them a gift they will treasure for years down the road.
